33 Simple Strategies for Faculty by Lisa M. Nunn
To improve my teaching methods I try to read as many pedagogy books as possible. As I’m only a TA and not Faculty, I can only implement some of the recommendations outlined by Lisa M. Nunn. She provides little lesson outlines which can help students. The ones I have used/plan to use are outlined below:
- Ask students to write down on a piece of paper where they like to study and the subjects they want study partners for and then have them walk around to room, comparing their notes with their classmates. When I did this, the students were baffled that we were doing an activity “for them”, rather than for class.
- KQS cards, Keep, Quit or Start cards, you ask each student to fill them out so they can give you feedback.
- Give students sample questions for office hours so they feel less afraid to attend.
- There are many more, this list is awfully short in comparison to the insights provided in the books.
